Ugly Duckling...

Its amazing what a good stylist can do these days. One minute you can look like the frumpy girl next door complete with last seasons dress and absolutely no idea how to walk in heels, then suddenly a stylist equipped with a magic wand sunders in on her Gucci platforms and transforms the uncoordinated duckling into a stylish princess. A great example of this is Kristen Stewart from the Twilight saga. Boy oh, boy did she need a little guidance in the fashion department. Here she is promoting Twilight in 2008.

Cringe worthy moments. I mean, the hair, the fit of the clothes and not to mention the poses are all a little off target for a starlet. The magazine reports after these pics came out were certainly not kind. But then along came a stylist and clicked her Prada heels together to create a whole new look for the lovely Kristen. Here are some pics of her recently promoting New Moon in LA, Japan and Europe.

I particularly like the fact that the above dress has an origami touch to the hem, she wore this whilst promoting in Japan. The only criticism I would have for Kristen is to practice smiling, scowling was so last year. You know what they say, 'You're never fully dressed without a smile..'

Oh Baby!

One of my very good friends has had a baby.. well he's almost 5 months now. He is the most cutest, adorable, sweetest, cheekiest baby I have seen yet. At her baby shower she was swimming in so many different types of baby clothes she could of put him in a different outfit everyday and still have outfits left over, but out of all of them mine really stood out (I know, I am being biased... But it's true!) I bought him a Peter Alexander baby set. One was for the first few months and said 'BOY', the next was when he was older and said 'EAT, BURP, SLEEP' and the final one is for when he can crawl and says 'LITTLE MAN'. How cute is that!? Then my Boy bought him a Micheal Jordan suit equipped with beanie and booties. AHHHH!!! I couldn't control myself when I saw the little one all dressed up, I just had to kiss those chubby cheeks!!

This got me thinking about Baby fashion. I mean, babies have no say on what they wear, so this is ultimately the best time to test out your styling skills! I then had a look back on my baby photos and let me just say the 80's weren't the best fashion era to be born into. Mum, why did you like dressing me up looking like I had a fountain on my head?

But, I then got thinking about celebrity babies. They have the most fashion conscious mothers out there, so there is never a shortage of cute clothes for them to wear. So, I decided to pick my top five fashion conscious celebrity kids (and mothers).

1. Suri

2. Kingston

3. Maddox

4. Harlow

5. Romeo

Belt It Out!

I heart belts. I love wearing them with high waisted skirts, dresses, jeans, t-shirts, shorts.... absolutely anything! Some would even say that I wear them with my pjs...

Here are a couple that I am drooling over at the moment.

Going GaGa

I am going GaGa over Lady GaGa. There she is on the front cover of Rolling Stones Magazine covered in nothing but bubbles. How does she do it?! She has been known to say that she idolizes Andy Warhol and her style emulates art. I must say, that I admire her for being so dramatic and alternative. What does she think of when she is lying in bed in the mornings deciding what to wear...? I know that when I lie in bed in the mornings I toss up between either jeans and a nice top or a dress with stockings... Not really GaGa potential.

I bet her wardrobe is a mix between Sex and the City (when Carrie moves in with Mr. Big), Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue's costume wardrobe and defiantly Clueless! It would be one long room with all her outfits displayed like an art exhibition, she would then choose her outfits from an online program and they would be delivered to her on a conveyor belt. Ok, that's going a bit far, but it is possible.

It is also rumored that Lady GaGa will be launching her own fashion line aim towards teenagers. ‘She’ll walk around in London in her underwear and you watch, everyone will catch on."- Rapper Akon.

Hmmm... not too sure I would like to wear my undies on the outside, unless of course I am going to a superhero fancy dress party or possibly the beach. But I do like her choice of colors and unusual choice of outfits for certain occasions. I might have to rethink my outfit choice just a little bit more before I leave the house in the morning. Maybe I could wear at least one GaGa inspired piece with my normally subtle taste in fashion.

An Angel has gone

My Mum would always tell me about how she would spend hours of time on her hair to get it to look like the original Charlie's Angel, Farrah Fawcett. With those luscious golden locks and stunning white smile, I'm sure there a girls out there who will still be looking to Farrah for inspiration.

Tribute to MJ

Here I am listening to Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits, whilst CNN is on in the background blasting out the resent news. Can you believe it?! Wow, the King of Pop is dead? I thought I would share some fantastic photos of Micheal Jackson so that we may remember him as he was, not as the media made him. He was an eccentric, exuberant entertainer that rose to the top of the Pop Scene. Some even said he was bigger than Elvis himself...

100 years of Beauty

[Above] Press advertisement in Votre Beaute in 1932 for L'Oreal Blanc, the secret of platinum blondes.

100 years of beauty for L'Oreal, formally known as La Société Française de Teintures Inoffensives Pour Cheveux — 'the Safe Hair-Dye Company of France'. L'Oréal dates its origins back to 1909, to a small apartment in Paris in which the dining room doubled as a demonstration area and the kitchen as a laboratory. It was here that French chemist Eugène Schueller started L'Oreal with only €120 in his pocket. It has now gone on to be a multibillion dollar company.

One of L'Oreal first guiding principle was (and still remains to be) 'research and innovation in the interest of beauty'.

I was reading an article today saying that 'lipstick sales increase during the recession', I am wondering if this can be true. Mark O'Keefe General Manager of L'Oreal Consumer Divison said 'Lipstick sales increase pretty much every year, It's one of those categories that just grows, so I don't know whether you can attribute it to any particular crisis.' I guess the fact the L'Oreal has survived 100 years is sure proof that beauty never fades...

I also read that you can tell a lot about the economy by alcohol sales. When times are good, champagne sales increase, when times are tough, beer sales increase. Hmm... not too sure about that, but I like the way they think.

So get out you lipstick wands and pop open a bottle of bubbles its time to save the world!

Closet Space

I live in the smallest studio apartment known to man. I have started calling it my jail cell. I love the fact that it is close to the city, Coles, bus stops and the cutest Italian restaurants- and that I can call it my own. But I really didn't check out the closet space when I decided to sign the lease right then and there (mainly because the nice view of Sydney was distracting me.)

The fact that I have worked in retail for nearly 4 years didn't help my situation when I started to unpack. I went next door and bought loads of coat hangers, shoe racks, plastic draw stackers and a bottle of bubbly to help me through. But it still didn't helped. (I did however enjoy the bubbly...)

I even went through my clothes and decided to give some to charity- still no luck. Mind you, the 'charity' clothes are still in a large plastic bag on the very top of the cupboard, just encase...

There are clothes in piles on chairs in my room, stacked in bags under my bed, piled high in the cupboard and I think I sometimes even sleep on top of them. Oh, did I mention I have a couple of pairs of shoes under my desk at work?? Crazy, I know.

I have also noticed that I am only wearing a small section of my clothes and have stopped going shopping . Maybe this is a good thing- I don't know. But one thing I do know is, this will never happen again.

So anyways... Now that I am in the process of moving I need to have a massive closet clean up. So out come the plastic space bags (my best friend Chloy loves these), suit cases, boxes, willpower, determination and of course a nice bottle of bubbles.

I will tell you one thing that I have learnt from this experience, and that is to always check the closet and storage space before you sign the lease- even if there is the most spectacular view just outside the window.

Wish me luck.

Chanel Runway Spring/ Summer

Some inspiration for the Spring/ Summer... I heart the neutral pallet.

Who isn't to say you can't start wearing this color now.... Forever New, Sportsgirl and Bardot have this lovely nude, champagne color in store at a fraction of the price...

For the lovely head pieces you could try... Diva, Portmans or Dotti.

Enjoy. xxx

Is this me?

A girl at work sent me this pic. She thought it looked like me... ?!

What do you think?

Chanel In Fashion

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel - better known as Coco - founded the most celebrated and widely known fashion houses . This year, there will be at least two films will explore the life of Chanel's dramatic past. From her leap from country girl into the world of fashion.

The first film, Coco Avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel), stars the new face of Chanel's No. 5 fragrance, Audrey Tautou (from Davinic Code and Amelie), while the second movie, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, due out later this year, features the star of Chanel's Allure Sensuelle perfume campaign, Anna Mouglalis.

Book the date in your diary for Coco Avant Chanel is in cinemas from June 25. I see you all then.

Out on the town

Why is it that after 12 o'clock at night I turn into a pumpkin? Well, that's what happened on Saturday night. I went to a friends birthday dinner at a lovely Lebanese restaurant, with belly dancers. 1 bottle of red later and I end up at a nice pub in Surry Hills. A few cocktails later I am jumping into a cab on the way to Star City casino... why oh, why did I go...
I ended up staying out at the casino until 6am in the morning- damn their dark windows and the fact that the casino is always open.
The next day after I had poured myself out of bed, I was flicking aimlessly through a selection of celebrity magazines and a few pics caught my eye. This one of Hayden Panettiere in particular.

I mean here she is on a night on the town, its probably about 3 or 4am in the morning, she's had an all nighter and she still looks absolutely gorgeous. I love the outfit!!!

So next time I go out on the town, I am going to listen to my inner conscience that is telling me:

"No, Annaliese, you do not need that 10th cocktail followed by a tequila shot. You can go home now and wake up tomorrow knowing that you can still enjoy the day. You can do it!"

I definitely do not want to do a Lindsay Lohan again...

Peace xxx

Blondes have more fun!

3 hours in the hair salon! 3 hours!! But now I am officially Blonde! And let me tell you, Blondes definitely have more fun.

I gave my stylist a pic of Nicole Richie and I think it has paid off quite well. Very Happy.

hair styles

Its been too long! I have started to wear a headband to cover up my re-growth. So I have booked into the hair salon tonight. So excited. I am really inspired by the above photographs, that I am printing them out now to show my over enthusiastic hairdresser. Oh, gotta love her!

LBD

The famous little black dress. I have such a fashionista problem. I am asked to wear a LBD to a party this weekend I am finding it so hard to come across one I like, is timeless, easy to wear, classy (definitely not trashy) and within my budget. Ah... if only I could turn back time.

Pet Peeves

Ok, so I need to get it off my chest. Ever since I started living in Sydney I have become a bitter, complaining, nagging, whinging, negative person. I have yelled at kids in the movies, covered my nose in disgust as people smoke near me, and then complain loudly on the phone whenever someone is walking on the wrong side of the footpath! Is it just me, or is this city living up to the name the 'Big Smoke'?

So as I mentioned earlier, I yelled at a few kids in the movies. Normally I wouldn't mind, however it was a scary movie and they were imaturelly giggling. Also I had paid $18.50 for the ticket, not to mention $15 for popcorn and a coke, then to top it all off I sat on a wet seat! Ah, I'm not normally so snappy, but suddenly I just snapped!

As for the smoking, don't get me started... I mean aren't there suppose to be anti-smoking laws for certain areas... like.. ah, don't know.... the beach for starters and parks... oh, and bus stops, and where people are eating. I purposely run past people smoking covering my mouth just so I don't have to breath in that horrible tar. I don't need to be a smoker just because you like it! Can't you do it somewhere else, like far away from normal people. Preferably not where there are children, people enjoying the fresh air, people eating, people exercising or where there are people at all. I mean don't get me wrong, I realize that smokers also think smoking is bad and that it is a hard habit to kick, but think about this... if you quit today you will be saving the environment, your health and not to mention you will be saving yourself listening to people like me nagging you to stop. So there you go, stop smoking!

As for the footpath scenario... well, its kinda like driving a car, you stick to one side, drive in the slow lane if you are a learner, indicate and look before turning. If only it were this simple walking on a footpath. I mean please walk to the left hand side, if your slow please do not take up the entire footpath as people may want to get past, and if you feel like turning, please check if there isn't someone in your way! Is that too hard to ask?

Well, thats about all from me today. I'm not normally one to vent, but this really took the cake, I mean the whole cake!

Peace & Love xx

Fashion Passion

I made a pack with a friend that we would not spend ANY money on material possessions, namely on clothes for 1 whole month. This was very hard considering that we both work at a clothing store on the weekends.

Well, today is officially 1 month from the day, and let me tell you it was hard. I ended up sweating if anyone mentioned a new purchase around me. I couldn't believe that I would have been like that! Can you think of a more materialistic, selfish act? I mean I should be sweating up a storm when someone mentions the suffering in Africa, or the killing of innocent animals in Canada.

I wouldn't recommend that you do this, especially if you shop as a way to relieve stress. Trust me, you will end up spending more then you save once the drought is over.

So, I now have a plan of attack for when Saturday comes. First, I will ruffle through my wardrobe throwing away any unwanted items (possibly giving them to a charity or my sisters), I will then have a list of items I need/ want. I have searched the stores I want to visit online, so that I will have some sort of budget formed. Bardot, Sportsgirl, Forever New, Myer, DJs, GP.... the list goes on. Then I will get up early enough on Saturday to hit the shops running!

Now let me tell you, this is very out of my character. Out of my friends and family I am the one saving (don't know what for...) however if I can save a dollar, I will. However, the saying goes 'you want something when its gone' (or something like that). And boy oh boy do I want it. haha.

Don't worry I will be back to normal after this weekend.

Love xx
